Guys, we know the idea of personal grooming hasn’t been at the forefront of your mind. But today, it’s more popular now than ever! Stepping up your grooming game doesn’t have to be the terrifying experience perpetuated by movies and media. Here’s a couple of things you can do to better prepare for your waxing appointment!
Firstly, most guys want to know…
“How bad is it going to hurt??”
Let’s be real, we are removing hair at the root. It’s kind of uncomfortable and everyone is different as far as sensitivity. What many do not know is that you can actually get a patch test done to see how your skin will react. It is very common with a first time wax for there to be some redness and possibly some small bumps. If you know you’ll have an event that you’ll probably want to get waxed for, then getting a patch test done early on will prevent you from getting that day of irritation.
In relation to this, DON’T DRINK BEFOREHAND! We know you probably want to ease the anxiety of your pending service, but drinking alcohol thins the blood making you more sensitive to waxing. It will only hurt you, not help you.
Next, do some exfoliation in the interim. By removing the dead skin build up in the areas you want to have waxed, you reduce your chances of getting ingrown hairs. Also, this allows for an easier and cleaner wax.
*NOTE* No Exfoliating 48 hours AFTER a wax.
Also, trim up a bit before getting a larger area waxed i.e. your back, your chest etc.
Hair only needs to be about a quarter of an inch long to do a wax. By removing a bit of the bulk, your esthetician will have a much easier time getting the wax all the way down to the skin to make the removal nice and smooth. Most estheticians do not mind doing the trimming for you but it may come as an additional charge.
And finally, most importantly, ASK QUESTIONS!!
If you have any concerns about your scheduled service just let your esthetician know. It is our job to make your experience as comfortable and stress-free as possible. Knowing is half the battle and you will feel better if you feel like you’re being heard.
So with a few tips under your belt you can now go in to your appointment with confidence and take your grooming game to the next level with ease!!
